Academic Research

Research with Professor Joon Soo Lim

I am a research assistant to Syracuse Associate Professor in Public Relations Joon Soo Lim. Last semester we did research, analyzing the public sentiment of cryptocurrencies on Twitter after the Sam Bankman-Fried fraud. I applied Association Rule Mining to a Twitter dataset to find a correlation between a downward shift in public sentiment towards the crypto industry and the fraud. The paper was recently accepted to the International Conference of Applied Artificial Intelligence. We are currently conducting a research project to explore how GPT-3.5 can be used to label and extract sentiments from news articles.

Media Organizations

American High

American High is a film production company that bought a high school in Syracuse in order to make coming of age movies. They have a first look deal with Hulu, and in my internship, I got to write coverage for screenplays submitted to them, meaning I was responsible for summarizing the screenplay and assessing its quality and practicality of filming.

Orange Television Network

Orange Television Network is the station affiliated with the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse. While at OTN, I analyzed YouTube Analytics data to try to boost viewership. For instance, I conducted a statistical analysis to determine if YouTube tagging had a measurable effect on viewership (It did not). I also edited trailers for Syracuse Stage productions and acted as a stage hand for various student television shows.

Teaching

Newhouse TRF IA

I was an Instructional Assistant for a wide variety of Television, Radio, Film classes while at Syracuse. These included Children’s Media; Principles and Practices Business Class; Video Workshop Production; and Directing. While teaching these classes I became familiar with how to use the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, the C100, and the Adobe Creative Suite. I also just learned organizational skills and how to explain complex topics.
